We are currently accepting applications from first-year law students interested in being considered for the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) 1L Scholars Program as part of our 2023 Summer Associate Program, with the potential to receive a $50,000 scholarship as described below. We are interviewing candidates interested in technology law and Patent Litigation in particular. A technical degree and/or experience in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred but not strictly required. Candidates should possess excellent academic credentials as well as strong analytical, writing, and verbal skills. Students are encouraged to apply in accordance with their law school's recruiting guidelines.
LCLD is an organization of more than 350 corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners. The 1L LCLD Scholars Program is designed to strengthen the legal pipeline by expanding the number of opportunities for diverse first-year law students. In addition to having the opportunity to attend the 2023 LCLD Scholars virtual summit, our 1L Scholars at Winston & Strawn will be able to spend part of the summer working directly with one of our clients as well as participate in the firm’s annual Diversity Roundtable. As an LCLD Scholar, there is
potential to receive a $50,000 scholarship if you complete both our 1L and 2L summer associate programs and accept an offer of full-time employment.
To apply for the 1L LCLD Scholar position, please submit:
Resume
Cover Letter (
please note which office you are interested in and your location ties, practice area interest & related experience)
Law School Transcript (when available)
Undergraduate Transcript
Personal Statement (500 words or less) discussing your qualifications and answering one or more of these prompts:
Tell us about yourself.
Tell us about a challenge you have faces, how you overcame it, and how you grew from the experience. Note the challenge does not need to be related to your identification as a diverse individual.
What does DEI mean to you?
What are the obstacles to achieving greater DEI in law schools or more broadly in the legal profession, and how might those be overcome?
Your completed 1L LCLD Scholars Program application will also serve as your application to our 2023 Summer Associate Program; you do not need to submit a separate general application for our 2023 Summer Associate Program.
