The School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics within the Faculty of Science and Engineering is seeking to appoint two Computer Games/Science Lecturer to strengthen and complement its research and teaching activity. The school has a diverse offering across the main areas of Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic and Robotic Engineering, Computing and Mathematics. It provides a stimulating teaching and research environment focusing on practical relevance and with strong connections to business and industry, offering excellent prospects for graduates. There are well established interdisciplinary research groups related to Computing: Centre for Robotics and Neural Systems, Centre for Cyber Security, Communications and Network Research, and the Big Data Group. Based in theFaculty of Science and Engineering, theSchool of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics is a friendly, creative and inspiring place to study and covers the subject areas of civil and coastal engineering, computing, electrical and electronic engineering and robotics, mathematical sciences, mechanical, marine and materials engineering, and navigation and maritime science. With many internationally recognised experts, our teaching staff are passionate about providing an innovative and inspiring learning experience.The School hosts the Marine Building, home to the world-class Coastal, Ocean and Sediment Transport (COAST) Laboratory, amongst many other facilities. We have an extensive portfolio of research from offshore renewable energy, coastal engineering and robotics to cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and data science. Working holistically across the University, you will be challenged to innovate, collaborate and deliver impactful research contributions as part of a systems thinking approach to addressing today’s global challenges. The post requires a strong research profile and the ability to make teaching contributions across our portfolio of degree programmes, which include computer science, software engineering, cyber security, but with a specific focus upon technical games development. Your research should complement and strengthen the existing research in the domains of game technology for data visualisation, research into VR/AR/XR, game ai, and edutech. You must be able to demonstrate a significant commitment to, and experience in teaching & learning especially when it comes to the unique intersection of software, hardware and art, which is needed in games development. You will be expected to contribute to the school’s undergraduate and postgraduate courses, which may involve summer schools, internationalisation activities (including overseas delivery opportunities) and other widening participation activities. You will also have the opportunity to take part in curriculum development and course management allowing you to shape the future of our programmes. You should hold a PhD in a relevant discipline and be able to demonstrate a track-record in research and teaching. It is highly desirable that your research expertise will align to one of the School’s core research areas related to Computing (as represented by our Centre for Robotics and Neural Systems, Centre for Health Technology, Centre for Security, Communications and Network Research, and the Big Data Group).
