Job Description:
What's the role -
The Technical Editor supports the preparation and publishing of Shell Technical Standards, reporting to the Technical Standards Manager as a member of the Engineering, Projects and Capability team in PTP/C.
Technical Standards include DEPs and Package Equipment Solutions that are used by Shell projects and assets to guide the technical engineering work. The technical standards team both co-ordinates and edits technical standards using the Polarion database to ensure they accurate and readable when published.
The Technical Standards team is applying Agile working to the development and update of standards and the editor is a Scrum Master for Americas-focused part of this activity.
Key accountabilities include:
Polarion expert and superuser, editing and guiding authors and editors
Assist the standards engineers to plan and track progress of standards during the development cycle
Organise and facilitate scrum sessions for the Agile approach to standards update, including the co-ordination of work from senior technical specialists.
Train and guide editors in the application of the editing rules.
Dimensions
Part of an editing team of 5-7 and sole representative in Houston.
Typically 3 publishing events per year with an annual cycle for DEPs and twice-yearly for PES and delivered through 6-10 cycles of Agile Sprints. All standards delivered through the Polarion database.
Multiple interfaces with all technical disciplines and Shell lines of business, working with global engineering teams.
Special Challenges
Standards publication is delivered through the Siemens Polarion tool. The editor needs to have ‘superuser’ competence in the Polarion tool to be able to support the editing team and community of authors as necessary.
The standards team is implementing Agile ways of working and the editor needs to develop scrum master skills to lead the Americas interface
Skills and Requirements
What we need from you -
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
At least three (3 years of relevant experience
Excellent English skills are essential, including the ability to communicate clearly and experience in technical writing.
Structured and well organized
A team player and able to deliver through others
Skilled in the application of Polarion database
Experience of Agile scrum delivery and capable of developing into a scrum master role
