Position Description:

The Senior Front End Developer is responsible for programming assets within the Overstock.com user interface–and ultimately contributes to a high-quality customer experience on the website and across other digital channels.

The Senior Front End Developer maintains a strong drive to innovate and develop something new and different to maintain our best-of-class position within the industry. S/he collaborates with graphic designers, photo art directors, web developers and business owners to publish functioning designs and concepts into production for our customers to interact with worldwide.

As the primary technical resource on the Creative team, the Senior Front End Developer works tirelessly to define and build scalable content solutions and engaging design features to deliver a rich experience customers expect when shopping with Overstock.com.

Duties Include:

Support the weekly creative production cycle by developing and implementing marketing and promotional content for the website and daily broadcast emails using HTML, CSS and JavaScript/JQuery.

Ensure that all pages are programmed error-free, cross-browser, cross-platform, and optimized for download performance;

Prioritize workload to meet deadlines for assignments in the code release schedule;

Stay current with the newest online technologies; research new technologies and make recommendations on implementations;

Perform quality assurance on all new code from inception through integration, staging and production environments;

Collaborate effectively with creative/design teams; provide technical advice and guidance about template design, browser limitations and technology;

Create templates and libraries for reuse by creative team and other development teams across Overstock.com;

Participate in brainstorming sessions;

Partner with graphic designer to develop process flows, wireframes, and mockups to effectively conceptualize and communicate high-level design strategies and user experiences;

Strong presentation skills; articulates technical rationale and functionality logic when defending work;

Partner with Graphic Designer(s) to deliver high-quality work on schedule;

Ongoing optimization of marketing tactics including a deep and thorough understanding of multi-variant testing processes and optimization techniques;

Availability for “on call” site updates as scheduled;

Proficient problem solving and project management skills;

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;

Seek improvement in overall processes and partnerships, and is able to consistently drive implementation of changes and solutions;

Assist executive team members with occasional presentation preparation and general support.

Requirements:

7-15 years prior web design experience;

5 years minimum retail and/or eCommerce experience;

A college degree in Graphic Design, Interaction/Digital Design, or other communications design-related field preferred;

Portfolio includes web design, email design, and print tactics that have been produced commercially;

Expert knowledge of Adobe CS; HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery, and other relevant programming languages; able to manipulate CSS and capitalize on its cascading functions;

Able to build complicated static pages from scratch;

Can repair broken code through experience and troubleshooting;

Ensures accuracy of code by performing quality QA tests, and can identify problems with code across multiple browsers/platforms;

Understands the Subversion platform and can roll-back code by searching for versions of code by reviewing the deployment history;

Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals;

Mentors and assists junior team members.

A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected;

Performs a variety of complicated tasks independently; reports to manager/director;
