King University in Bristol, TN seeks a Dean of the School of Business, Economics, and Technology beginning in Fall 2023. King University, located in beautiful northeast Tennessee, is a Presbyterian-affiliated, coeducational, doctoral-level, comprehensive university offering majors, minors, and concentrations in fields such as business, nursing, social work, health sciences, education, and humanities. King University has received national and international acclaim for excellence in academic and athletic programs.

King University’s School of Business, Economics, and Technology (SOBET) houses a total of five academic programs: a traditional on-ground BA in Business with seven available tracks, an online Bachelor of Business Administration, an online BS in Information Technology, an online BS in Accounting, a traditional on-ground MBA, and an online MBA. SOBET has one of the university’s largest enrollments, and has faculty based in both Bristol and Knoxville. The majority of SOBET faculty are terminally degreed in their disciplines and combine for an impressive record of teaching, scholarship, and service.

Minimum Qualifications:

Terminal degree in a field related to Business, including Law, from a regionally accredited institution; five years administrative experience at the Associate Dean or Dean level in a school/college of Business; exceptional written and verbal communication skills; experience in leadership in an academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience at the Dean level in a school/college of Business; experience working with both traditional and adult studies academic programs; experience working in Christian higher education; established record of peer-reviewed publications and scholarly presentations.

Responsibilities:

The Dean functions as the chief executive officer of SOBET, leading the school to be recognized as the premier School of Business, Economics, and Technology in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. The Dean recruits, retains, and develops a competent faculty, builds and enhances the school’s programs, and supports the implementation of the university’s mission through setting the strategic course for the school.

Reporting to the Provost and working cooperatively with deans across the university, the Dean is responsible for nurturing King’s network of external partnerships with the business community, who are sources of student internships and employment, strategic information, and program support. The successful candidate must demonstrate a track record of effective communication and advocacy, an ability to translate vision into strategy, promote excellence in programs, and lead pedagogies and policies that will ensure student progress. Additionally, the candidate must exhibit ability to support faculty for professional growth and teaching expertise in online and classroom environments, and in the use of emerging technologies.
