Federal Government Senior System Controls Engineer/Specialist
Roles and Responsibilities:
POWER Engineers, Inc – Facilities Business Unit Controls Department is currently seeking a Federal Government Senior System Controls Engineer/Specialist to work out of our Boise, Idaho office.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the completion of assigned projects while maintaining and improving client relationships. This requires technical competence in production roles as well as leadership competence to work with clients, mentor team members, and supervise team members assigned to projects. Assigned projects will include designing and retrofitting PLC control systems, SCADA networking/communications, as well as designing highly reliable information technology systems for utility, industrial, commercial or federal clients. Systems to be analyzed and designed may include manufacturing facilities, data centers, standby generation facilities, and critical power distribution systems.
Desired technical disciplines include the following three areas:
Networking and Communications Designing and configuring network and communication paths for industrial controls
Develop specification and design communication networks considering data security and availability
Developing specifications and design for copper, fiber optic, and other network physical media
Programming of Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches and devices including VLANs and routing
Programming and configuring virtual networks and vSwitches
Protocol gateway configuration
Traveling to project sites to troubleshoot and commission network and communication systems
Experience with some or all of the following network and communication protocols: Ethernet TCP/IP

Logic and Control Systems Developing and implementing logic and control schemes for power control systems including: Diesel generation

Developing programs on various platforms for the implementation of these schemes
Traveling to project sites to test and commission the control schemes.

Required Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably BSEE, BSCEN or BSCS, or equivalent work experience
5 years of industry experience in technical disciplines described in the job summary
Desired Education/Experience
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Completion of power systems or computer engineering courses covering related topics including: Digital systems engineering
Compiler design
Cybersecurity
PLC programming and microcontrollers
Advanced microelectronics
Communications
Three-phase power
Power electronics
Rotating machines
Previous work experience designing, commissioning and troubleshooting IT, IoT and ICS systems for critical infrastructure
Experience mentoring others or providing technical and commercial leadership in customer-focused engineering projects
