About the Team:
The Data team
is responsible for driving the adoption of data driven decision making across FreshBooks - for both our internal users and our global customers of small business owners, bookkeepers and accountants
(or whatever better describes our customers).
We are the center of expertise for data strategy, data architecture, data modelling, machine learning, ethical data usage and artificial intelligence service design. We lead the effort to raise the data and AI literacy levels across FreshBooks and to embed our commitments to responsible data use into culture and practices across our fast-growing organisation. Data strategy is an emerging specialist group, building global collaborations to define, communicate and drive a cohesive approach to data usage that combines commercialisation, consent, ethics and sustainability. They work with colleagues from diverse backgrounds to drive robust and mature decision making around using data as a commercial asset, aligned to our belief in the primacy of customer consent.
The Opportunity - Senior Data Scientist
The
Senior Data Scientist
will discover and operationalize data science and ML products & insights derived from Freshbooks and 3rd party data in support of marketing, product development and user research. This role will develop the algorithms and data infrastructure necessary to support performance marketing and user personalization.
What you’ll do:
Teach, lead, and counsel colleagues on new techniques or solutions
Collaborate with data and software engineers to enable deployment of sciences and technologies that will scale across the company’s ecosystem
Responsible for the conception, planning, and prioritizing of data science projects
Planning data science projects, data science demos to evangelize data science across the organization
Provide guidance and strategic support to the overall Data Science strategy for FreshBooks
Interpret and analyze data science problems
Conceive, plan and prioritize data science projects
Test performance of data-driven products
Visualize data and create reports
Experiment with new models and techniques
Align data projects with organizational goals
Provide support to inexperienced analysts with high-level expertise in an open source language (e.g., R, Python, Julia, etc.)
Spot and evaluate emerging/cutting edge, open source, data science/machine learning libraries/big data platforms (e.g. XGBoost, H2Oai, Spark, Hadoop, etc.)
Adhere to stringent quality assurance and documentation standards using version control and code repositories (e.g., Git, GitHub, Markdown)
Interpret and analyze data problems and guarantee data quality and integrity
Responsible for building analytic systems and predictive models as well as experimenting with new models and techniques
Ensure that data projects align with organizational goals
Utilize data visualization tools to deliver insights to stakeholders.
Keep up to date with industry trends and standards and provide guidance and recommendations to the Data Science team and the wider data organization.
What you bring:
Proven experience as a Data Scientist or similar role
Solid understanding of machine learning
Knowledge of data management and visualization techniques
A knack for statistical analysis and predictive modeling
Good knowledge of R, Python and MATLAB
Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
Strong organizational and leadership skills
Excellent communication skills
A business mindset
Prior experience with Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud Platform
Graduate degree in statistics, math or equivalent quantitative field
