Job Description:
What is the role?
The Shell Energy Product SME will work closely with Product Owners and Product Managers across Gas Trading, Power Trading, and other Shell Energy Americas Products to design end-to-end IT solutions that help enable the business to reach its goals. These solutions are generally required for new market entries, in support of significant business process changes, or for replacing or significantly changing the functionality of an IT Product. The Shell Energy IT Product SME will play an important role in representing IT Delivery in discussions with business Product Owners, Business Excellence, IT architects, and other stakeholders within Trading and Supply. This person will have in-depth functional knowledge of the IT involved in the end-to-end flow of the business processes across the IT Product portfolio. Functional knowledge of both the Power Trading and Gas Trading IT Products is preferred but candidates with deep knowledge of only one of these Products may be considered. This is a business intimate role wherein the individual would be a Thought Partner and work collaboratively with business and other stakeholders to determine the most appropriate IT solution. Aside from initial design and scoping of the end-to-end IT solution, the IT Product Manager will remain available for consultation and to support any project as it proceeds through delivery and go-live.
Responsibilities include:
Influences the IT roadmap to ensure solutions are aligned with the business vision and provide the greatest business value.
Continually remains aware of the latest market solutions and industry trends to identify solutions to help the business stay ahead of the competition.
Provides technical assurance and expertise to support the full Product lifecycle including product discovery, agile delivery and operations.
Contributes to project delivery by leveraging deep system and market knowledge to provide recommendations based on business requirements, available system configuration, and or enhancements.
Serves as a technical thought leader on the art of the possible and supports/advises on the creation of the product roadmaps.
Collaborates and works with Vendors and Suppliers regarding technical issue resolution.
Advocates a strong position in relation to requested changes, with a specific lens on maintaining simplification and total cost of ownership of the solution.
Skills and Requirements:
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Minimum of 10 years IT experience preferably knowledgeable in Trading and Supply and proficient in Business Analysis
This role requires working closely with a diverse set of stakeholders in business and IT to provide a high degree of integration across many work-streams.
Has a strong stakeholder management experience
Must be able to challenge business cases for change and convey a consistent message about the case for maintaining simplification and keeping focus on the Shell Energy Ambitions.
Deep understanding of the Energy Trading business processes and how the Product portfolio enables those processes.
Extensive knowledge of how the suite of IT applications integrate to support the business.
Experience with the following is preferred:
Openlink/Endur software (Configuration, DB schema, and Simulations)
Nucleus Software
Microsoft Azure DevOps tools (such as ADO/VSTS and GIT)
Software Engineering processes (such as Configuration Management, Change Management, Release Management, etc.)
Excellent collaboration and communication skills to manage various business stakeholders as well as IT partners.
Strong analytical aptitude. Able to analyze complex/ambiguous requirements and identify and drive value for the business.
Able to perform in virtual, cross-functional, cross-cultural teams.
Effective at managing multiple priorities and demand requests concurrently.
Experience with Agile as well as Waterfall delivery models.
Good communications and ability to articulate information in a clear and concise manner is essential.
Ability to drive delivery through others and hold others accountable is vital as a large number of stakeholders are required to provide part of the delivery.
