Tech Job Site Says Technology Sector Is the Fastest-Growing Sector in the US; Obama Desires to Keep Tech Jobs in America

September 03, 2008

Pasadena, CA — InformationTechnologyCrossing (www.informationtechnologycrossing.com), an IT job board dedicated to serving IT professionals, is updating its website with the latest IT jobs daily and has managed to post more than 121,000 jobs in its database as of the first week of September. The website aims to support the slumping job market by adding more and more IT job openings. The job site continues its efforts to add every available IT job (even the ''hidden'' ones) to its roster.

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) attacked outsourcing in his speech accepting the Democratic presidential nomination, referring to a practice that has displaced nearly one in 10 IT workers, according to a new study. He further said that he ''will stop giving tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas, and…start giving them to companies that create good jobs right here in America.'' Like the Democrats, Republicans also support keeping tech jobs within the US.

''Both parties are promoting their own ways of keeping IT jobs within the US,'' says Harrison Barnes, CEO of InformationTechnologyCrossing.

Despite the current economic turmoil, the US job market for IT professionals seems bright. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of employed IT professionals increased in the second quarter by 10% as compared to the second-quarter figures from 2007. Additionally, the American Electronics Association found out through a study that New York and Washington, DC, led the nation in high-tech employment, and also reported that the most important trend is that high-tech workers have been earning more and more over the last few years.

''Industries such as banking, retail, real estate, and manufacturing have faced the maximum job cuts in this economic downturn. However, information technology is one of the many recession-proof industries, and the jobs in this sector are poised to increase,'' says Barnes.

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics also reported recently that technology jobs are getting a major boost and will do well in the near future. Because technology will continue to become more complicated in the future, new IT jobs will continue to be created in Florida and nationwide, said Roger Moncarz of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

According to Barnes, the top IT jobs at present include IT manager, programmer, systems analyst, software engineer, and support specialist. The job counts for these job titles on InformationTechnologyCrossing are as follows:
  • Software engineer jobs: 9,234
  • IT operations manager jobs: 8,748
  • Programmer jobs: 6,500
  • Systems analyst jobs: 1,866
  • Support specialist jobs: 1,195
InformationTechnologyCrossing aims to update its website with all of the most recent IT jobs. The website plans to add more IT jobs this month in its continuing effort to offer the highest number of active IT jobs possible to thousands of job seekers.
